Artist Biography

Heather lives in Vermont with her beloved husband, in the house they designed and built around themselves while they raised (and continue to raise!) their four children. Their home has been a center for creativity, fun, and faith, as well as the base for boisterous homeschooling for over two decades.

After bedecking her high school with acrylic murals, she majored in Fine Arts at Amherst College and began experimenting with oil paints. Loving the ability to work wet-on-wet, or alla prima, she dove into the new medium with delight.

Her early work explored portraiture of loved ones in the simple actions of life… playing cello, teasing the cat, reading a children’s book. She also favored still lifes from the home: onions in a bowl, boots on the floor, and coffee and tea sets sprawling along counters. As the years have passed and her family has grown, the subjects have continued to change, shifting from muted winterscapes to summer salamander catching and hand-held walks on the beach.

Now, in a new season as a grandmother, Heather has reimagined her color palette. In her new series, purples and indigos peek through from the under paintings and portrayals of natural light grace every surface. Heather is delighting in depicting people in the places where the chaos slips away and they are completely centered and at peace.

Heather’s work is in private collections throughout New England. She has exhibited her work in the Weston Craft Show, the Tilting at Windmills gallery, the Chaffee Art Center’s Art in the Park Festival, DaVallia - Art And Interiors, Vermont Artisan Designs, and the League of NH Craftsmen Fine Craft Galleries.
